Why Mentari
The practical case for a smaller, independent advisory firm.
Scale is not the same as capability. Here is what clients find when they engage with Mentari Consulting rather than a larger alternative.

What working with us delivers
Senior-only engagement
The advisor who takes the brief conducts the work. No handoffs to junior staff mid-engagement.
Written deliverables
Every engagement produces a document the leadership team can act on, not a presentation for a single meeting.
Defined scope, fixed fee
Each engagement has a clear scope and a single agreed fee. No hourly billing, no scope creep without discussion.
Strict confidentiality
Your affairs are not referenced in any external communication without your written consent. NDA available on request.
Malaysian context fluency
Over a decade advising within the specific legal, cultural, and relational context of Malaysian family businesses.
Transparent, accessible pricing
Fees are published and fixed. The smallest engagement starts at MYR 520 — sized for a consequential question, not a full programme.
In Depth
Each advantage examined
Depth of expertise
Our advisors bring backgrounds in corporate law, regional business strategy, and financial research. This is not a generalist practice; each member of the Mentari team has spent their career within the domains relevant to the work we take on.
- 14 years of combined family business advisory practice
- Fluency in Malaysian corporate law and governance
- Cross-sector experience: manufacturing, retail, property, services
"The leaders who benefit most from our work are those who are already capable thinkers. We add value not by replacing their judgement but by bringing an informed outside view to bear on it."
— Mentari Consulting, founding principle
Every engagement begins with a written scope. This document names the question being addressed, the deliverable, the timeline, and the fee. It is signed before any substantive work begins, and it does not change without mutual agreement.
A clear, documented process
We have refined our engagement process across more than eighty advisory assignments. It is not complex, but it is consistent: agree the question, do the work, deliver the conclusion in writing, discuss it with the principals.
- Written scope agreed before work begins
- Fixed milestones and delivery dates
- No open-ended retainers without discussion
Direct, responsive communication
When you contact Mentari, you reach an advisor, not a coordinator. We respond to all enquiries within one working day. During an active engagement, the lead advisor is reachable directly throughout the assignment period.
- One working day response to all enquiries
- Direct access to lead advisor during engagement
- No routing through support desks or account managers
We take a small number of engagements at any one time. This is deliberate — it means each client receives appropriate attention rather than competing for it.
The Working Brief, at MYR 520, exists because not every consequential question requires an extended engagement. We priced it to remove the barrier to good thinking on smaller but important matters.
Fees calibrated to scope
Our three services are priced to reflect the weight and duration of the engagement, not to maximise revenue. The smallest starts at MYR 520; the largest at MYR 2,200. All fees are fixed and disclosed before engagement.
- Three transparent price points: MYR 520 / 1,280 / 2,200
- Fixed fees — no hourly billing
- No upselling within an active engagement
Outcomes that last beyond the engagement
Our deliverables are written to remain useful. A succession framework produced in one of our engagements is a working document the family can return to as circumstances change — not a snapshot of a single moment.
- Written documents, not slide decks
- Frameworks built for adaptation, not single use
- Follow-up conversation included in all engagements
We measure our work not by client satisfaction scores but by whether the documents we produce are still in use two years later. That is the question we ask ourselves at the close of every engagement.

What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of our practice
The Working Brief format
A two-week, fixed-price advisory product for a single defined question — a format we developed internally and that has no direct equivalent among Malaysian consulting firms of any size.
Mediated family sessions
The Family Business Continuity Review includes a facilitated session with the family principals — a component that most strategy engagements omit, but which often determines whether a succession plan is actually adopted.
Bilingual capability
We conduct engagements and produce deliverables in English or Bahasa Malaysia according to the preference of the principals — without the quality reduction that comes from translation after the fact.
Limited active client roster
We cap the number of simultaneous engagements deliberately. If capacity is full when you enquire, we will tell you honestly and suggest a timeline for when we can give the work the attention it deserves.
