Our Services
Three services, each designed around a specific kind of need.
Each engagement at Mentari has a fixed scope, a fixed fee, and a written deliverable. None of them are open-ended. This is by intention.

How we work before we work for you
Every engagement with Mentari begins the same way: a conversation in which we listen to what the leader is dealing with, ask the questions that clarify it, and then share our view of whether and how we can be useful. No sales material is involved at this stage. Either there is a fit or there is not, and we say so plainly.
If we agree to proceed, we put the scope in writing before any substantive work begins. The scope document names the question being addressed, the method we intend to use, what we will deliver, when we will deliver it, and the fee. It is short — usually one or two pages — and it does not change without discussion.
The work itself is conducted by the advisor who took the brief, with access to Mentari's full internal resources — research capacity, peer review of conclusions, and accumulated knowledge from prior engagements in related sectors. Conclusions are tested internally before they reach the client.
Each engagement closes with a written document and a session — in person or by video — to discuss it. We do not consider an engagement complete until the principals have had the chance to interrogate the conclusions and we have addressed their questions.
Service One
Family Business Continuity Review
A six-week engagement for Malaysian family-held companies preparing for the transition between generations or contemplating outside investment. The work covers governance structures, the documented and undocumented decision rights inside the firm, and the practical and relational aspects of succession planning. We work in confidence with the principals, and where appropriate with the next generation, producing a written transition framework that the family can adopt at its own pace. Includes two on-site visits and one mediated family session.
What the engagement covers
- Governance structure review and documentation
- Decision rights mapping — formal and informal
- Succession readiness assessment for key roles
- Facilitated session with family principals
- Written transition framework as final deliverable
How it proceeds
Initial scoping conversation to confirm fit and agree the specific questions to address
First on-site visit — interviews with principals, review of governance documents
Analysis and preliminary conclusions — shared with lead principal for factual check
Mediated family session — structured discussion of transition considerations
Second on-site visit and final written framework delivered and discussed
Service Two
Strategy Conversation Series
A four-session engagement intended for leaders who want to think out loud with someone qualified to listen and to push back. Each session is two hours, conducted at our offices or yours, with a written summary delivered after each meeting. There is no template, no framework imposed in advance; the agenda is set by the matters the leader is currently weighing. Suitable for founders, owner-managers, and senior leaders newly appointed into their roles.
What the engagement includes
- Four two-hour sessions at mutually agreed times
- Written summary after each session
- No predetermined agenda or framework
- Available at our offices or the leader's premises
- Reflective brief at conclusion of series
Who this suits
- Founders managing complexity they have not encountered before
- Owner-managers navigating strategic choice between competing options
- Senior leaders newly appointed and wanting to think clearly before acting
Service Three
Working Brief on a Single Question
A two-week assignment for leaders who have one specific question that is not large enough to warrant a full engagement, but consequential enough to deserve outside thinking. Examples include whether to enter a new state market, how to price a new offering, or whether a particular hire is the right structural answer. We agree the question in writing, gather what is needed, and return a brief of approximately fifteen pages.
Examples of questions this suits
- Whether to enter the Sabah or Sarawak market this year
- How to price a new service tier without undermining existing revenue
- Whether a proposed senior hire addresses the structural gap it is meant to fill
- Whether a proposed partnership represents sound value for the firm
How it proceeds
The question is agreed and written down — usually in a single sentence
Research and analysis conducted over two weeks
Brief of approximately fifteen pages delivered and discussed with the leader
